  • 76 families in three gruel centres

Sullia: There are altogether 76 families that still remain in the gruel centres at Sampaje, Kallugundi and Aranthodu. It has been decided that the 16 families receiving sanctuary at a private hall in Aranthodu Tekkil will be shifted to the Sampaje gruel centre on Monday August 27th.

Of the 76 families, 16 are at Aranthodu, 24 at Sampaje and 36 at Kallugundi. Since August 17th, free facilities were provided to the victims at the hall in Tekkil. Since the hall has already been booked for weddings and other functions, it has been decided to shift the victims in the hall. Following this, only Sampaje and Kallugundi gruel centre will remain functional.

Daily medical assistance is being provided to the victims in the gruel centres by Sullia health centre and KVG medical college. Free SIM facility has been provided to a few victims by BSNL. Essential commodities donated by donors are still being distributed amongst the needy. Rain intensity has dropped.

Operation continues

The road restoration work and the removal of tree trunks and debris blocking the vented dams at 2nd Monnangeri in Jodupala has continued. The work is being carried in association with the home guards, fire service and villagers.

Bus breakdown; passengers affected

On Sunday, a mini bus en route towards Madikeri via Sullia-Karike-Bhagamandala suffered breakdown at Bhagamandala. This is the bus which left Sullia at 11:15 am in the morning. Later, the stranded passengers were sent to Madikeri in a private bus.

The situation might have risen because; more than 70 passengers are being transported in a mini bus whose capacity is for 30-35 people. There is demand that more mini buses need to pressed into service to manage the transportation effectively.
