Uppinangady: Even before starting the drinking water unit under the government’s plan, it has been closed with a rusted door. Since the work was given to contractor from another state, the work has been progressing at a very slow pace and even though, finally the work has been completed it is not yet available for the public.
Though the village has got the scheme to protect social health by getting 10 liters of purified drinking water by inserting one rupee coin, in reality, not a drop of water has been received. Apparently, the contractors have kept the water purification unit within an old building and closed it with a rusted door.
Initially, when the work began, the contractors had procured all the required goods and dumped them in the Panchayat’s storage room. Yearly, they used to get a few workers and work on fixing the unit which eventually took three years to be completed. Now the public is demanding that the officials should take action for the proper use of the unit.
