Kasargod: Police arrested a 24-year-old woman on charges of murdering her 18-month-old son at Thayyil in Kannur here recently.
The accused identified as Sharanya had conspired to implicate her husband Pranav of murdering their son, Viyan, so she could start life afresh with her paramour.
On February 17 early morning, Sharanya carried Viyan who was asleep towards the seashore and smashed his head against the boulders here. Viyan sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. After committing the crime, Sharanya returned home and went to sleep.
A clueless Pranav filed a missing complaint with the police on the next day. During the questioning, the police observed that the marital relationship between Pranav and Sharanya was not well. Moreover, the couple were giving contradictory statements and Sharanya’s response, in particular, gave rise to some suspicion. The police subjected her to intense questioning after forensic tests found salty substance in the clothes worn by her after which she finally confessed to the crime.
According to the police, Pranav and Sharanya had married at a young age after getting acquainted with each other over social media. After sometime the couple developed differences and their family had to intervene to sort it out. Meanwhile, Pranav got a job abroad and Sharanya came closer to another youth during this time.
Upon Pranav’s return, Sharanya hatched the plot to murder Viyan and frame him so she could marry her paramour, said the police adding that no other person was involved in the crime.
