Young Farmer Ends Life for River Hemavati Water in Tumkur

Tumkur: Tensions erupted after a young farmer ended his life for water by jumping into a river canal for water from River Hemavati at Somalapura in Gubbi taluk in Tumkur district on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Cheluvaraju (35).

The incident occurred when the police arrived at the spot to stop the water flow into the canal. In an attempt to register his protest the farmer jumped into the canal and drowned in the water as there was a heavy water flow took the deceased to another location.

The police are reportedly searching for the dead body of the farmer whereas the local farmers have condemned the move of the police. Atmosphere in the area has turned tensed soon after the incident, sources said.
