Kasargod: A Kasargod resident managed to escape with Rs 12 lakh cash belonging to a jeweller, after conning the latter into clearing the gold jewellery pledged by him at a private finance firm.
Bekal police have filed a case in this regard on the basis of a complaint lodged by the jeweller.
The complainant informed that the youth had contacted him seeking his help to release gold jewellery, pledged for Rs 12 lakh with a private finance firm at Uduma. In return, he promised to sell the jewellery to him. The jeweller consented to the proposal and visited the finance firm along with the youth.
Interestingly, the accused managed to outsmart the jeweller saying that only one person will be allowed to enter for the loan clearance process and asked him to wait outside. After a while, he came out and asked the jeweller to collect the gold from the firm manager.
When the jeweller went inside, the youth fled the spot. The firm manager later told that only Rs 5 lakh worth gold had been pledged by the youth at the firm.
