Prostitution racket busted; 10 arrested

Udupi: A house in Manipal where a brothel was being run was raided by Karkala police under the leadership of Karkala assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Krishnakanth. A complaint regarding the racket was received during the police phone-in programme which led to the raid.

The culprits were arrested at a house in Rajeev Nagara in Badagabettu village near Manipal and a pimp included among the arrested. Apparently the racket was being run by a person named Vadiraj Ameen alias Vadi through his wife.

The police team has also seized Rs 62,250 in cash, five vehicles, 11 cell phones and as many as 22 condoms apart from three used ones from the house among other things.

The arrested are identified as Satish (30) from Chikkamagaluru, Karthik (37) from Tamil Nadu, Mahesh Bhat (26), Asha (35), Deepak (30), Vinay (28), Puneeth (29),  Dinesh (30), Sachin (32), Arun (25) and Dinesh  (30).

Policemen suspended

SP Laxman Nimbargi suspended Manipal ASI Shekhar and a constable Suresh for not raiding the place in spite of having information about the brothel being run there.
