Mangaluru, Udupi: Twin districts sets up over 6000 beds for COVID-19 patients

Mangaluru, Udupi: About 4,884 beds and 2,000 beds have been set up by the district administrations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi respectively for COVID-19 patients.
In Dakshina Kannada new COVID Care Centres with 100 beds at NITK, Surathkal and 75 beds at Kadri Shivabag’s ESI Hospital have been arranged.
Additionally, the district administration is also considering converting the Morarji Desai School into a COVID Care Centre. Some schools, social welfare department hostels and hotels could also be converted if needed along with additional beds in Ayurvedic and Homeopathic Medical College hospitals and private hospitals in the district.
In Udupi, the district administration informed that nearly two thousand new beds have been set up in the district for handling the COVID-19 situation.
500 beds in the district are currently in use.
Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha informed that there are 900-oxygenated beds available in the district and private hospitals have reserved 75 per cent of their beds for COVID-19 patients.
District Medical Officer Dr Sudhir Chandra Suda said that six Community Health Centres (CHCs) in the district are already been prepared to handle COVID-19 patients with 30 beds each centre to be utilised for the purpose.
