Udupi: MLA Raghupathi Bhat on Sunday said that as the positivity rate of Covid has reduced to 19% in the district, there is no need to extend lockdown.
Speaking to the reporters, Bhat said, “As per government orders, we should bring the positivity rate to 10% before June 7. The positivity rate of the district is 19% and I don’t think it is necessary to extend the lockdown. Government should only ban public gatherings and religious functions.”
He further said, “People are already suffering due to the lockdown. Lockdown has also created a sense of awareness among the people. Let the government extend lockdown in those districts where the positivity rate is high.”
“On the other hand, if the lockdown ends, people should not violate covid protocol. All must strictly follow the rules till 70% of the people are vaccinated,” he added.
