Karkala: Neglected by son, elderly woman rescued by social worker

Karkala: An 85-year-old woman, who was neglected by her son was rescued by a social worker near Ashoknagar Anganwadi at Kuntalpadi.

The woman identified as Yashoda was lying in the outer verandah of her house having injuries on the head for two days and her son did not take her for treatment.

Social worker Ramitha Shailendra, who had been to the house to distribute grocery kits, noticed the woman and got her admitted to the government hospital of Karkala. She also provided clothes to the elderly lady.

The woman said that she is ill-treated by her son and daughter-in-law and they hit her with a wooden log resulting in head injury.  However, the son claimed that she is mentally unsound and got injured when she fell two days ago.

A case has been registered at the rural police station.
