Barber siblings turn haircuts into work of art

A haircut in a modest salon in a sleepy hamlet in northern India is more than a trim or a crew cut; it’s an opportunity to get some art imprinted on the back of your skull.

Brothers Rajwinder Singh Sidhu and Gurwinder Singh Sidhu of Dabwali, Punjab, are now well-known in their small corner of the world for cutting hair into the shapes of customers’ favourite photos.

The brothers utilise a variety of trimmers, scissors, and pencils, among other things, to get every minute aspect of hairdos accurate, from the Taj Mahal with its many turrets and towers to a lifelike likeness of pop sensation Michael Jackson.

In an interview with Reuters, Rajwinder said, “In the beginning we used to give anyone we could get hold off free haircuts so that we could practice our skills on them. Some days we used to practice till 2.00 a.m., because during the day we used to run the regular salon.”

The brothers’ salon is witnessing a continuous stream of customers who want to draw attention to themselves at social gatherings or events but don’t want something permanent like traditional tattoos, such as representations of Bollywood stars, popular sportspersons, or even a Mickey Mouse impersonation.
