B’luru: Absconding goldsmith arrested for defrauding three jewellers

Jayanagar police have arrested a 63-year-old on charges of defrauding three city-based jewellers and fleeing with 1,104 grams of gold.

The arrested identified as Sunil Kumar Boul, a resident of Karagappa Garden in Sampangiramanagar earns his livelihood as a goldsmith. He has been running a shop at Nagartpet for the past three decades.

The jewellers — Rakesh Bellur, owner of Jwalamala Jewellery in Jayanagar, Rajesh Pathi, owner of Alankruthi Jewellery, and owner of Navrathan Jewellers had filed cases against Boul for defrauding them after collecting gold from them for making of the ornaments.Two cases were filed with Jayanagar police while another was filed with Cubbon Park police.

As per the complaint, Boul had collected 271.5 grams of solid gold from from Bellur, 116 grams of solid gold from Rajesh Pathi and 717 grams of gold from Navrathan Jewellers.

Boul was then reported as missing on June 24, after heaving home for the shop. His wife had lodged a complaint in this regard with Sampangiramanagar police.

Based on the complaints filed by the jewellers, the police formed a team to trace him. Recently Boul surrendered before a court in connection with the case in Cubbon Park.

During the investigation, police found that he had pledged 947 grams of gold, valued at Rs 55 lakh with a gold financing firm, and recovered it.
