Mysuru: District In-charge Minister S T Somashekhar has clarified that there was no proposal for shifting already existing residents of the Chamundi Hills, elsewhere.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, the minister said, “As per the discussions held in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the morning regarding development works at the Chamundi Hills, we have not received any proposal for shifting the existing residents of the Hill to elsewhere.”
“As the number of families residing on the Hills was increasing, the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) officials were directed to identify and notify suitable land below the Hills. This does not mean that the existing families will be pushed elsewhere. But permission for new families wanting to build a house on the Hills would not be given. This is only to avoid burden on the hilltop”, he added.
Regarding the ropeway, minister Somashekhar said, “The local leaders and people have opined that the ropeway would not be suitable for Chamundi Hill as it was a holy place and not a tourist spot. Taking into consideration the opinions, the district administration has dropped the project and would intimate the state government about the same”.
