Bengaluru: State Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chauhan informed that around 707 animals were protected during the time of Bakrid celebrations.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, he said that around 60 FIRs were filed in relation to the illegal trafficking of animals.
“The department has protected a total of 551 cattle, 144 buffaloes, and 12 camels in the state. All of them were shifted to nearby gaushalas in the respective districts”, said the minister.
He read out the list of animals being protected district-wise on the eve of Bakrid.
Meanwhile, Prabhu Chauhan said, “We had requested Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, and the Chief Secretary of Karnataka Government to make necessary arrangements to safeguard animals from being illegally trafficked and slaughtered. The efforts have paid off”.
“The department had constantly held peace meetings with the Muslim clerics and created awareness on the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act (KPSPCA), 2020. As a result of this, the slaughtering numbers have decreased when compared to last year. We have received a positive response from people on the action”, he said.
