Mangaluru: Viral fever in children, DHO advises precautionary measures

Mangaluru: Many children in the district are exhibiting symptoms of a viral infection that causes fever and blisters on the body. District Health Officer Dr Kishore Kumar advised the infected children to stay home until they recover to stop the spread of the virus.

Speaking at a press meet held on Monday, the DHO said that there was no need to panic or alarm. Though there is no specific treatment for the infection, children get well within a few days.

Further, Children having symptoms of fever and blisters not to go to school until they are completely healed, he added.

Cases of mosquito-borne diseases

Until the end of July this year, 203 dengue cases were reported in the district. Belthangady recorded the highest number of cases at 71 followed by Neriya and Naravi, he said.

Similarly, only 93 cases of malaria have been reported in the district till July end, with Managluru city alone reporting 79 cases. No malaria cases have been reported from Sullia taluk this year , he added.

Monkeypox screening

As a precaution, passengers are being screened for monkeypox at the Manglauru Airport. The samples from the suspected cases will be collected and sent to Bengaluru for testing, Dr Kumar said.

At present monkeypox testing facility is only available in Bengaluru, he added.

‘Take your COVID booster dose’

Booster dose against Covid is available free of cost in all health centers and government hospital in the district. he requested to get themselves inoculated against the infection.
