Toyota Kirloskar Motor said on Sunday that some personal information of its customers may have been exposed online, adding that the extent of the intrusion is being confirmed.

In a statement, the company said, “Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been notified by one of its service providers of an incident that might have exposed personal information of some of TKM’s customers on the internet. The extent of intrusion is being confirmed.”

The Bengaluru headquartered company said that the Indian Computer Energy Response Team (CERT-In) had been alerted to the breach.

“Considering this incident, TKM will work with its service provider to further enhance the existing extensive guidelines being followed and is fully committed to avoid any kind of inconvenience to our esteemed customers. We sincerely apologise for any concern this may have caused to our customers,” it said.

No further details in terms of how many customers were impacted or what data was exposed have been provided at present.

In October, Toyota said that the personal information of nearly 300,000 customers may have been exposed since July 2017. The Japanese automaker said that the email addresses and customer management numbers of some customers who subscribe to T-Connect have been leaked.

This is the latest in a series of cyber breaches where personal data of customers has been exposed. The attacks have been targeting both private and state run enterprises. In December, customer data of nearly 30 million Indian Railways passengers is believed to have been exposed and made available on the dark web.
