Udupi police solve house burglary case; one suspect arrested

Udupi: City police have successfully apprehended a suspect linked to a recent burglary at a residence on Kunjibettu Lalalajapat Rai Marg. The arrest led to the recovery of stolen property valued at lakhs of rupees, police said.

In a press conference held at the Udupi City police station on Wednesday, District Additional SP S T Siddalingappa said that the arrested accused has been identified as Manjunath alias Kalkere Manja (43), a resident of Bhubaneswari Nagar, Uttarahalli, Bengaluru.

He was found in possession of 530 grams of gold jewelry worth Rs 31,55,930, along with 16,800 grams of silver jewelry valued at Rs 15,12,000. Additionally, a car valued at Rs 2.50 lakh, which was for the theft, along with counterfeit number plates and iron rods, were also confiscated from the accused, the ASP said.

The robbery occurred at the residence of Ammunje Vithaldas Nayak in Kunjibettu on the night of October 8. It was reported that 1,882 grams of gold and 7,450 grams of silver, totaling Rs 73,06,800 in value were stolen. A formal case was registered at the Udupi City Police Station in this regard.

The ASP said that a special team comprising Udupi City Police Station Police Inspector Manjappa, Udupi City Police Station SI Puneet Kumar B E, and Eranna Shiragumpi, managed to apprehend the suspect along with his vehicle near Balai Pade near Udyavara on October 31. However, the remaining stolen assets are yet to be located and recovered, he added.

The arrested individual is linked to multiple theft cases in the Brahmavara, Tarikere, Arasikere, and Banavara police station jurisdictions. More than 60 cases have been registered against him across various police stations in Bengaluru, Kolar, Tumkur, Davangere, and Chikkaballapura districts, said Additional SP Siddalingappa.

The press conference was attended by Udupi DySP Dinakara P K, and Udupi City Police Inspector Manjappa D R, among others.
