Supreme Court advocate Niranjan Thomas Alva passes away

Bengaluru: Supreme Court advocate and spouse of senior Congress leader Margaret Alva, Niranjan Thomas Alva, passed away on Saturday at the age of 78.
Niranjan was the son of freedom fighters Joachim and Violet Alvawho were also the first couple in the Indian Parliament, Niranjan was additionally a former Director of the State Bank of India.
Alva had assumed a key part in extending the impressions of All India Catholic University Federation as its leader across the nation in the late 50’s.
As a Supreme Court attorney, one of the litigation cases he drove brought about air hostess in Air India getting same rights and privileges as their male counterparts, including full retirement benefits and the right to bear children.
Alva is survived by his Margaret and kids Niret, Nikhil, Manira and Nivedith.
The burial service will take place on Sunday, April 8 at 4 pm in Bengaluru at St Theresa of Kolkata Church.
