  • No answer with food department officials too
  • Impossible to have a new card
  • Only emergency card possible

Kundapur: People wishing to get ration card will have to wait for some more time as the software with the Food Division, still does not give the opportunity to create the card.

On March 27th, on the backdrop of the election model code of conduct, the process of giving the ration card was halted and it is yet to resume. Only those who need to register for health card can avail an emergency ration card.

Those who have submitted applications are stuck between the Food and Civil Supplies Divisions with the officials themselves not having proper information and say, “Don’t known when it will get done.” However, adding, removal and correction of names on the ration card is being carried at Gram Panchayats (GP).

No confirmation

After doing rectification at the GP’s, the printed ration card comes to the hose of the beneficiaries. But to get the correction confirmation letter, one has to again go to the Food Division at the taluk office. There is no printing option in the software at the Panchayats. Hence there is a demand from the public to provide printing opportunity at the panchayat.

Income certificate

For the addition or correction of a name in the ration card, the software asks for income certificate for all the names that need be added from the age of 5 to 18 years. For children who do not have an income, the head of the family is their only income. There is also the point that the head should be a woman. But, in the address, no opportunity has been given to fulfill it. Therefore, the people are requesting the removal of the requirement of an individual income certificate for the addition or correction of a name on the ration card of an individual within the age of 18 years and instead replace it with a single income certificate for the same.

Why is it important?

Ration card is very important to apply for various government schemes, job security, scholarship, aid, to avail the benefits of government schemes at hospitals and many other facilities.

Don’t know when

“The order to create new ration cards had not yet come. It will resume as soon as the opportunity is provided in the software. Don’t have the information on when this will happen,” informs Chandrashekhar, Deputy Tahsildar
