More rain in the coast; lightning inflicts losses

Mangaluru: Rain accompanied with lightning and thunder lashed Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday, October 14th.  Reportedly a hew houses suffered damage due to lightning.

Subramanya and surround areas witnessed heavy rains. The numerous devotees visiting temples all over coastal Karnataka to take part in Navaratri festivities and witness cultural programmes were much troubled by the sudden heavy rains.

There was good rain at various locations in the city and the surrounding taluks including Beltangady, Venoor, Puttur, Sullia, Moodbidri, Bantwal, and Vittal in Dakshina Kannada district. There was light rain and drizzling in several places in Udupi district including Udupi, Mainpal and Padubidri.

Loss and injury due to lightning

Six persons including an year-old baby suffered injuries after lightning struck the house of M A Muhammed at Pallathur, Perabe near Alankar in Kadaba taluk during late night hours of Saturday. The injured were admitted into the primary health centre at Kadaba for treatment. The walls and roof of the house developed cracks, and electrical equipments were destroyed.The loss is approximated to be around Rs 1 lakh.

The residence of Laxmi Poojarthi at Bellibettu, Kallamandkur near Moodbidri suffered damage after being struck by lightning. The trail of destruction left behind by the lightning includes burnt electrical equipment, damaged roof and walls and the loss in this incident has been estimated at Rs 4 lakh. However, two women who were within the house when the incident occurred were lucky to escape unarmed.
