Bengaluru: The Vidhana Soudha police on Friday evening apprehended a typist, working in the office of Backward Classes Welfare minister C Puttaranga Shetty after he was found in possession of Rs 25.76 lac unaccounted cash.

The accused Mohan was arrested on the basis of a tip-off while he was exiting the premises and has been booked under CrPC 41(D) and IPC 102.

As per reports, the police tried to stop Mohan while was passing through the West Gate near the High Court on his two-wheeler but instead of stopping Mohan took a U-turn and tried to escape from the spot. Mohan was arrested after a chase and a security check revealed that he was carrying Rs 25.76 lakhs of unaccounted cash, in denominations of Rs 2000, Rs 500 and Rs 200 within his bag.

Upon questioning, Mohan claimed that he was taking the money for business purpose, but he did not have valid documents to authenticate his claims.

Initial investigations have revealed that Mohan was supposed to hand over the cash, given to him by three contractors of the Ganga Kalyana Scheme, to some officials in the backward classes welfare department. It is gathered that the police are examining the CCTV footage to ascertain from whom and where Mohan got the money.

Meanwhile, Minister Puttarangashetty claimed to have no knowledge of the incident and said that the police should probe the incident so that the truth is revealed. He added that he had fired the typist in question from his office.
