Andrew Martis murder: two arrested

Udupi: Two persons have been arrested by Shirva police in connection to the murder of Andrew Martis (60), whose corpse was found in the forest at Edmeru Takadebailu of Moodubelle. The arrested have been identified as Rajendra Nayak (47), a resident of Gundupade of Pernankila village and Santhosh Poojary, a resident of Kattingeri Chakrabettu Mane. They have been remanded to 13 days of judicial custody.
The accused were arrested as they arrived to a wine store after the police received information regarding this on the morning of Saturday, January 26.
Mr Martis was an alcoholic and used to create minor ruckus in the wine shop. Hence it was suspected that his murder was a result of a similar fight and on Friday morning, two persons were seen taking Martis along with them on a Scooty and it was presumed they might have committed the murder.
By arresting the culprits within 12 hours, the effort of Mahesh Prasad, circle inspector of Kaup and Abdul Khader, sub-inspector of Shirva has been lauded by the public. The vehicle and instruments used in the murder have been seized by the cops. The police had also conducted investigation in the angle of issue connected with the property also.
Murder because mother was insulted
Apparently the deceased used to abuse accused Santhosh’s mother under intoxication. A week ago, a fight occurred between them on the same issue. On Friday, the accused got Martis totally drunk and then took him to the forest and finished him off, it is accused.
