Youth killed by lightning strike

Kadaba: A lightning strike claimed the life of a youth at Subrahmanya on Thursday February 7th. The deceased is identified as Praveen (22), son of Krishnappa, a resident of Mittamahalu in Harihara Pallattadka. He is survived by his parents and a sister.
Praveen was busy laying interlocks for a private house near Kumaradhara along with Keshava Maistry when the incident occurred. As the work was progressing, all of a sudden it started raining and Praveen went to cover the motorbike parked closed by with a plastic cover and as he was placing a stone on the cover, he was struck by lightning and died on the spot.
The intensity of the lightning was such that his body suffered severe burns. Another labourer who was with him escaped from any harm. Praveen was immediately shifted to Kadaba Primary Health Centre. The doctors there confirmed that Praveen had lost his life. A case has been registered at Subrahmanya police station.
Praveen’s parents are day wage workers. Since they were in poverty, he studied till PUC and then he too started working as a day wage labourer. He is the only son for his parents and was a smart person. The family was totally dependent on him. His demise comes as a shock to his parents who are now sunk deep in an ocean of pain.
