Bengaluru: The state BJP unit criticized  PWD Minister H.D.Revanna for his remarks on actress Sumalatha while criticising her attempts to seek the Congress ticket from the Mandya Lok Sabha seat.

Speaking on the issue Senior BJP leader Suresh Kumar said that Revanna usually makes such comments and get away, but this time he will get a befitting reply for making derogatory statements on Sumalatha Ambareesh.

He further added that Remarks of Revanna against Sumalatha are not dignified. We can only bow our head after hearing his remarks against her, but the family members of Revanna should guide him on behaving properly in public life.

Sumalatha is asking for a Lok Sabha ticket considering the services of her husband to the Congress party and there is nothing wrong in it, he added.

Revanna on Friday, March 8 stoked a controversy, saying multi-lingual film actress Sumalatha, wife of late Congress MP Ambareesh, entered the political fray within months of losing her husband.

Even as the remarks drew flak from BJP, the Minister, son of JDS supremo H D Deve Gowda, later said he did not say she should not contest elections and refused to apologise.

Speaking to a private Kannada news channel in Delhi, Revanna said Sumalatha had come to politics …it is not even a few months since her husband passed away.”

Sumalatha was not grateful to what Chief Minister H D Kumarasawmy did for actor-politician Ambareesh, who passed away in November last year, he said referring to the arrangements made by the state governmnent for his funeral, said Revanna.

He was reacting to Sumalathas decision to contest from Mandya, a district dominated by Vokkaligas, the dominant agrarian caste of Karnataka.

Sumalatha, who has decided to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from Mandya — a stronghold of JDS — said she was hurt and pointed out it was an irony that such a statement had been made on International Womens Day.
