Surathkal: Water being wasted even during scarcity of water!

Surathkal: The pipe of a huge water tank near Govinda Dasa College here broke three to four months back and thousands of liters of water is being wasted due to this leak. The constant dripping of water has also rusted the iron ladder leading up to the water tower and is in a state of collapsing.

The tank which is located close by the road supplies water to Surathkal, Idya and many other areas. If one tank has the holding capacity of 10 lakh liters of water, another tank with lesser holding capacity has been constructed. Since the pipe at the bottom of the smaller tank has broken, it needs to be repaired. But due to the rusted ladder which might fall any moment, the repair work is being delayed.

With the stop in the water inflow at Netravati River which is the lifeline of the district, the district administration is providing water through alternative facilities. The mantra for frugal use of water is also being recited. But, the will to stop the leak of water is required. The call of the moment is to come forward, locate water leaks and repair them immediately thereby making proper use of drinking water.

System is not right

The issue regarding the broken pipe has been brought to the notice of the concerned. But since the f is not right here, the repair has not been done. Clean water is going to waste. The responsibility of conserving water for the one or two more months is on all of us, informs Umesh Devadiga Idya.

Repair soon

“It has come to our notice that the water pipe connected to the huge water tank at Surathkal has rusted. Proper action will be taken for its repair,” said Ravishankar, Divisional Commissioner, Surathkal Municipality
