Mangaluru: In the backdrop of the drastic drop in water level at Thumbay dam, the presently existing water rationing rule for the supply of water to the city has been revised on Sunday.

According to the rule till now, the process was to supply water for 4 days and cut the supply for 2 days. In the backdrop of the depleting water level, water would be supplied for 4 days and stopped for 3 days from May 13th onwards.

The water level at Thumbay dam on Sunday morning was at 3.97mt and by evening had reached 3.94mt. On Saturday morning, the water level was at 4.12mt and dropped to 4mt by evening.

If the current condition persists, the difficulty being faced to supply water to the city may only intensify. Amidst this, since it is essential to supply water to the city, the water rationing rule has been revised.

Revised water rationing rule

  • The water supply which commenced on May 9th will be continued till 6 am on May 13th. Then the water supply would be stopped 6am of May 16th.
  • Water supply will be restarted at 6 am from May 16th and will last till May 20th. Water supply will then be cut from May 20th at 6 am to May 24th
  • Water supply will be again restarted from May 24th 6am to May 28th. The supply will be stopped from May 28th to June 1st.
  • Mangaluru City Corporation has asked the public to not to waste drinking water for cleaning their vehicles and for their gardens.
