Mangaluru: Cases have been booked against 48 school vehicles in the city for transporting more students than the permissible limit, informed city Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil.

In the backdrop of complaints received regarding the overloading of school vehicles with students exceeding the permissible limit, a meeting of the administrative council of the various schools had been convened recently. Even though proper guidelines and warnings were given during the meeting, some vehicles were nonetheless transporting more students than the permissible limit. Hence the police launched an operation against such blatant violation.

In a period of two weeks, cases have been booked against 175 goods vehicles for transporting passengers and 45 school vans and auto-rickshaws for over-loading , informed the ComPol.
