Bengaluru: In the backdrop of resignation filed by Congress legislators Anand Singh and Ramesh Jarkiholi from the Karnataka Assembly Higher Education Minister GT Devegowda on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has nothing to do with the the resignation of two Congress MLA.

Allaying all charges that the PM or Home Minister Amit Shah were behind the resignation of two Congress MLAs,  G T Devegowda said, “PM Modi or Amit Shah are not involved in resignation of the two MLAs. Destabilizing Karnataka government is not in hands of state BJP leaders. BJP can only form the government if Modi gives directions to state leaders. No one else can do it. Nobody should point fingers towards the BJP.”

Anand Singh and Ramesh Jarkiholi resigned from the state assembly membership on Monday, July 1. Singh said he submitted his resignation to Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar. However, Kumar said he was not aware of any such resignation, adding that no leader contacted him.

Ramesh Jarkiholi also resigned from the state assembly membership and submitted his resignation to the Speaker on Monday. However, Ramesh’s resignation comes as no surprise and ends months of speculation about his future.

Ramesh and Singh’s resignation comes at a time when cracks seem to appear in the Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress coalition in the state.
