Fr Mahesh D’Souza suicide: Shirva parishoners stage protest seeking probe

Udupi: Shirva parishoners continued to stage a protest, for the second day today, demanding a probe into Fr Mahesh D’Souza death case.

Earlier yesterday more than 500 parishoners had staged a flash protest outside the Our Lady of Health Church and withdrew it only after getting an assurance from the Bishop that a parish council meeting will be held on November 3 to discuss the Fr Mahesh’s death.

Meanwhile the Bishop today told the protestors that the diocese will consider their demand for an investigation and decide if they want to take up the case. He also informed that Fr Mahesh’s family had met the SP and did not harbor any suspicions into his death.

Meanwhile District SP Nisha James, in a press statement said that there were no signs of injury on Fr Mahesh’s body and the complaint filed by his family also mentions that he committed suicide by hanging at the Principal’s office in Don Bosco School. She also warned of action against those spreading rumours on social media about the case.
