14 child beggars rescued

Udupi: In the backdrop of several public complaints, the District Women and Child Development department, district Labour department and district Child Protection unit carried out a joint operation and rescued 14 children (10 girls and 4 boys) involved in begging activities in Manipal, Udupi, and Udyavara.

The rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) which ordered their rehabilitation. Accordingly, four of the rescued girls were rehabilitated at Girls Balamandira, and the remaining six girls and four boys were put at Spoorthi, Vishwasada Mane in Shankarapura.
