Udupi: Former IPS officer K Annamalai helped collect Rs 25,000 to help a girl, hailing from Sringeri, after a pick-pocketeer robbed her of her belongings while visiting Srikrishna Math here.
On Sunday, the girl, who is soon to be married visited Udupi to purchase gold jewelery for herself. However, as few shops were closed at that time she decided to offer prayers at Lord Srikrishna temple and visit the shops later.
A pick-pocketeer managed to steal her purse, containing Rs 20,000 in cash while she was standing in the queue to get a darshan of the lord. When the girl finally realised she had been robbed she was heart-broken and began weeping.
Ironically Annamalai, who was visiting the temple at the same time came to know of the girl’s predicament. He contacted his friends and acquaintances and in no time raised Rs 25,000 and gave it to the girl.
