J&K: 60 terrorists killed due to surge in Counter terror operations in 2020

To prevent the spread of Coronavirus infection, lockdown is in force across the country. At the same time, in Jammu and Kashmir, counter-insurgency operations have been intensified which resulted in the killing of the highest number of terrorists belonging to different Pakistan-based outfits in April
Around 60 terrorists, including several top commanders of Jaish-e-Mohmmad (JeM) and Lashker-e-Tioba (LeT), were killed in counter terrorism operations by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir this year.
Eighteen terrorists were killed in January while seven each in February and March. A top Hizbul Mujahideen ‘commander’ Haroon Wani was killed in a fierce encounter with the security forces in the Gundana area of Doda in Jammu and Kashmir on January 15. On April 9, top Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Sajad Nawab Dar was killed by security forces in Sopore in Baramulla district in north Kashmir.
Also, 17 security forces personnel lost their lives while fighting the terrorists in the union territory and nine civilians were killed by the terrorists during this year
In 2019, As many as 160 terrorists were killed and 102 arrested in Jammu and Kashmir.
