For those who have recently purchased Google One cloud storage plan on Apple iPhone or an iPad device, Google might be owing you some money.

As reported by 9TO5, Alphabet Inc-owned Google owing to a bug, had accidentally counted photos and videos to the storage quota among a handful of iPhone and iPad users. Due to this many users may have purchased a bigger Google One storage plan.

Reports state that the bug has been fixed and the company is offering a refund for those who were credited with using more cloud storage than they actually did and bought an expensive storage plan.

The firm informed that the bug only affects a limited number of users and that it doesn’t affect the safety of the content and the uploads done on the cloud. The bug only relates to the storage quota of the subscribers.

“What happened: Beginning in January 2020, we may have inaccurately counted photo and video uploads towards your storage quota that is shared across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. These uploads should not have counted against your storage quota. For example, you may have purchased a plan because we mistakenly let you know that you were out of storage space,” the firm quoted.

Google informed that the firm is giving refunds to those who eligible and that it has requested a fund from the App store on behalf of customers that were affected by the bug.

It is also important to know that Google will no longer be giving free storage to Google Photos users starting June 2021 which means that all the photos and videos will be counted towards the 15Gb free storage that all Gmail users are given.
