Bengaluru: Recently, the UP cabinet cleared a draft ordinance against forceful inter-faith conversions or “love jihad” which caused a huge debate with many claiming that it targets one community and that the laws are a backlash to India’s progress in being a secular country.
However, clearing the rumours, BJP Yuva Morcha President, Tejasvi Surya, on Wednesday, said that Love Jihad is not a Hindu-Muslim issue, but is an important step taken towards the protection of human rights.
Speaking at Udayavani Samvada, Surya said, ” If non-Muslim females decide to marry a Muslim man, registration under the Special Marriage Act is mandatory. Also, the marriage must happen under The Hindu succession act”
“As per our constitution, an adult has the right to choose their life partner. But Love Jihad is not a Hindu-Muslim issue. Hindu and Christian females who do not get legal protection while marrying a Muslim man will be protected under this law,” he added
He further said, ” Rather than introducing a new law, the government can bring in certain changes i.e, if non-Muslim females decide to marry Muslim men, then registration under the Special Marriage Act must be made mandatory. Also, there must be arrangements made for the marriages to happen under The Hindu Succession Act. This will help protect Women’s rights”
Also, speaking about the violence in West Bengal, he said” After becoming the BJP Yuva Morcha Presidentt, I campaigned for Bihar and Hyderabad elections. I also went to West Bengal. There is blood politics in Bengal. Upon arrival, I realised that Police officials use tear gas and brutally lathi charge people”
