Mangaluru: Ramakrishna Mutt organised a progamme to mark the 125th anniversary of the Chicago speech of Swami Vivekananda, on Tuesday September 11th. Students from different colleges in the city participated in the programme. Superintendent of Police Dr B R Ravikanthegowda was the chief guest for the programme.
The SP addressed the gathered and said that the period between 1861 and 1872 was a golden period of India as great person like Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhiji and Sri Aurobindo elevated the value and love of India in many ways.
“If you have to understand Swami Vivekananda, you have to read his philosophy and imbibe it. If you go deep into it, you will have a clear understanding of fluid mechanics,” he said, observing that students of engineering and other fields will have a better understanding of scientific concepts by going through Vivekananda’s works.
Swami Vivekananda saw God in the common man and in the poor. He believed serving the poor was the way to serve God. Swami Vivekananda discarded practices that were against the poor and he was for acceptance of different eating habits, noted the SP.
“Rather than just showing respect to Vivekananda by offering flowers to his portraits, students should follow his ideals in their lives,” he added.
