2,655 candidates in fray for Karnataka Assembly elections

Bengaluru: As per an information from the state Chief Electoral Office, on the whole, 2,655 competitors are in shred for the upcoming May 12 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections.
Of the 3,509 who documented substantial nominations by the keep last date on Tuesday, 583 applicants withdrew by Friday and 271 were dismissed after their papers were examined on Wednesday, as indicated by the information which was made accessible on Friday night.
Of the competitors in the shred, including 219 women, 222 are from the Congress, 224 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 201 from Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), 1,155 Independents and 800 from other national, regional and fringe parties, as indicated by the last list discharged by the election board.
Mulbagal body electorate in the state’s Kolar area has highest number of applicants competing with 39 in shred for the seat. Friday was the last date for the candidates to withdraw their nominations.
Election will be held in a solitary stage for all the 224 Assembly constituencies in the state, including 36 saved for the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 15 for Scheduled Tribes (STs).
