Bhubaneswar: At least 86 children from Odisha have been adopted by foreign parents in a span of three years from 2015, a state minister said.
“All the 86 children were given to the foreign parents from the Specialised Adoption Agency in the year 2015, 2016 and 2017,” Odisha Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal said in the state Assembly yesterday.
He said that while 33 children were adopted by foreign parents in 2015, the figure was 24 and 29 in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
Kurda district-based Subhadra Mahatab Seva Sadan registered the maximum number of foreign adoptions during the period, sending 25 children abroad.
Replying to a question by BJD’s Sanjeev Kumar Sahoo, the minister said the Odisha government has not received any report of untoward incidents with girl children sent to foreign countries for adoption.
