A fistful of grain for a bagful of promises: BJP’s new election campaign

Bengaluru: BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa polishing his farmer friendly  picture in the run-up to the Assembly elections, has composed an open letter to the State’s farmers, promising them “great days ahead once he comes back to power” and approached them to take a pledge to never consider committing suicide.

Descending intensely on the Congress government for the “pitiable farming conditions”, he claimed the circumstance was caused by lacking water system, irrigation system, and firms offering substandard manure and seeds.

“I regret that I was not ready to actualize all my dream farm changes during my last tenure,” he stated, communicating concern towards more than 3,515 rancher suicides in Karnataka over the last five years.

The BJP will go on a 15-day-long Musthi Dhanya Abhiyana from March 21 to April 6, taking a fistful of grains from agriculturist families in villages across the State. Consequently, they will be given a similar letter from Mr. Yeddyurappa, said Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javdekar, election in charge for Karnataka. He said the campaign would conclude with a public feast in the villages on April 8, 9 or 10, when the grains collected would be utilized for cooking.
