ASI, SI arrested for taking bribe

New Delhi: Two Delhi Police personnel were arrested today for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man to hush up a sexual harassment case against him, police said.

An assistant sub-inspector, posted at Himmatgarh police post in Hauz Qazi police station area, and a sub-inspector rank officer were arrested by the Vigilance branch on the complaint of the man, they said.

According to the police, the assistant sub-inspector arrested while receiving the bribe which he was accepting on the instructions of the sub-inspector.

A woman had filed a case at central Delhi’s Hauz Qazi police station against her landlord for sexually harassing her.

The two police personnel allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the accused to hush up the matter, they also allegedly threatened to implicate him in false cases, they said.

The man approached the vigilance branch officials who asked him to strike a deal with the two for Rs 5,000.

Following which, a trap was laid and the two policemen were caught taking the money from the accused and subsequently arrested, police said.
