Bantwal: Following complaints from the public, DK District Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan on Wednesday inspected the ongoing road construction on the 4-lane national highway stretching from BC Road to Addahole.
During the visit, he actively listened to public grievances and suggested remedial actions to Abdullah Javed Azmi, Project Director of the National Highway Authority.
The inspection commenced in the morning with a thorough review of complaints raised by farmers’ unions and the general public along the BC road – Gundya route. Mullai Muhilan, accompanied by officials, examined the progress of highway works at various points including Brahmashree Narayan Guru Circle on BC Road, Melkar, Kalladka, Mani, and Uppinangadi.
In Melkar, concerns were raised regarding potential damage to houses due to hill excavation and the disconnection of access roads. The DC emphasized the importance of addressing these issues promptly and recommended informing the relevant authorities for suitable alternative arrangements.
Furthermore, residents of Kalladka complained about inadequate watering during road construction, leading to dust-related health problems such as asthma and lung issues. In response, the DC directed the Tehsildar to ensure that the dusty roads should be watered by the local Gam Panchayat to prevent further public grievances.
The DC also highlighted instances of drinking water pipes being damaged during road works, causing inconvenience to the residents. He proposed the installation of new pipelines in affected areas to ensure uninterrupted access to clean drinking water.
