Mangaluru: Barcodes will be given to houses in all the wards of the city by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) to track and efficiently implement waste collection.

A command and control centre is also being set up at a cost of Rs 74 crore to monitor public services more efficiently. The centre will help in monitoring traffic and air quality along with the movements of vehicles used in solid waste management. Buses, ambulances and other public utility vehicles will be GPS enabled linking all their data with the centre.
Additionally, 15 smart poles will be installed at prominent junctures in the city with solar panels powering the lights, traffic signals, public address system, LED display, cameras, wifi on the pole. An SOS button will also be on the pole for citizens in distress to communicate with the authorities.
