Kolar: The sewage-filled toxic foam from Bengaluru’s Bellandur lake has now reached Lakshmi Sagara lake in Kolar.

The foam spilled after water from sewage treatment plants in Bellandur was discharged to 126 tanks in Kolar under the Koramangala-Challaghatta Valley project. The task means to give water to dried Kolar by filling water system tanks in Chintamani with treated sewage water from the tanks in the Koramangala and Challaghatta valley in Bengaluru.

Spread more than 1,000 acres of land, the Bellandur lake is profoundly polluted receiving 60 percentage of the sewage produced in the city. The lake has spilled toxic froth many times recently and on a few events, even caught fire.

According to the Karnataka Lake Development Authority, the Bellandur lake is the biggest of the 262 lakes and tanks in Bengaluru and accumulates around 40 percent of the city’s sewage.

The lake is could be better notwithstanding the National Green Tribunal (NGT) pulling up the government and its different agencies for neglecting to prevent contamination and not doing what’s necessary to restore the lake to its pristine glory.

The NGT had coordinated a immediate and complete shutdown of 76 polluting industries around the lake.
