Boat from Malpe sinks in Goa

Malpe: A deep sea trawler that left from Malpe on a fishing expedition sank near Malwan in Goa on Tuesday afternoon. The boat named ‘Sri Sai Siddi’ belonged to Roshini S Kunder from Malpe.
The crew on the boat including fishermen from Uttara Kannada district identified as Nagaraj, Honnappa Ganapathy, Manju, Rama, Sadashiva and Pandu have been rescued.
The boat which left from Malpe port on the night of April 16th was indulged in fishing in 40mt deep water near Malwan when it seemed like something hit the hull of the boat. Soon the vessel started taking in water and the engine stopped functioning. Meanwhile, Vayuputra and Shubhashaya fishing vessels which were in the vicinity rushed to the rescue of the sinking trawler and saved the crew.
Although attempts were made to tow the sinking vessel to the coast, it was to no avail. The total loss incurred is estimated at Rs 80 lakh including 8,000 liters of diesel, fish net and the captured fish cargo.
