Brahmana Kere: Deer stuck in silt rescued

Siddapura: A deer which had ventured out of the forest in search of water ended up stuck in the silt of a lake here and was eventually rescued and left back into its home territory on Sunday June 9th.

Brahmana Kere is one of the six lakes located on the borders of Suralu forest and the lake attracts thirst wild animals to its spring daily. Similarly, a thirsty deer which had come to the spring to quench its thirst ended up trapped in the silt of the lake.

The incident was noticed by the locals who immediately informed the Forest Department who rushed to the spot and after some effort, were able to rescue the deer which was later released into the forest after a checkup.

Demand for desilting

Suralu forest is spread across hundreds of acres of land and is home to bisons, leopards, deer and many other animals. Since, currently there is no water resource in the forest; the wild animals visit Brahmana Kere to quench their thirst at the spring here. The locals have urged the Forest Department to carry out desilting of the lake on which the wildlife of the forest is dependent.

Forest Guard Harish K, Veeranna Mayachar, Forest Conservator Anand Balegara, Gururaj, Krishnamurthy Hebtar, Shivu and Shivanna were part of the rescue operation of the deer. Locals Krishna Poojary and Prashanth, got into the lake, tied the ropes around the animal in distress and assisted in pulling it out of the silt.
