Udupi: Days of regret and repentance are not far for the Congress party, said BJP leader Pramod Madhwaraj on Saturday in a jibe to remarks by KPCC president DK Dhivakumar’s allegations that Madhwaraj was regretting his decision to join the saffron party.

“The decision to join BJP was not taken in haste. It was a well-deliberated decision and I won’t regret it… Instead, Congress will have to repent and regret losing its base in the future,” Madhwaraj said.

The former minister said that his former political party (Congress) would realize its folly in the upcoming local body and panchayat elections in the state. “Congress is so conceited that, it thinks, it will win the local polls in 2020-2023. It will have to regret it,” he added.

Madhwaraj further said that his followers and other political leaders may jointhe BJP by following the procedures prescribed by the party. “I have discussed the issue (of taking in Congress workers) with the BJP district president,” he said.

Responding to the jibe that Pramod has no place on stage at BJP functions, Madhwaraj said that there are cultural differences between the BJP and the Congress. “Everyone in the Congress wants to be on stage at every event. I am not a person who looks for prime seats on stage. I am a loyal BJP worker and I don’t have shame in sitting together with my party workers.”
