DK District administration to set up second Covid testing laboratory

Puttur: The district administration has decided to set up a second Covid testing laboratory in Puttur. The lab will be located on the first floor of the Samarthya Soudha next to the taluk panchayat building.

At present, there is only one testing centre in Government Wenlock Hospital and it takes a lot of time for nasal and throat samples from Puttur, Belthangady and Sullia taluks to reach the city. Hence, the testing centre in  Puttur will help in the early detection of Covid-19 and reduce delay in the announcement test results.

Deputy commissioner, Dr Rajendra K V said that in a month a fully equipped government lab will start working in Puttur.

As of now, swabs from Belthangady, Puttur and Sullia taluks are being tested at the centre in KVG Medical College and Hospital in Sullia.

This centre was among the eight ICMR-approved testing centres set up in eight private medical colleges of the district during the first wave.
