Drugs in Udupi from Maharashtra, Uttara Kannada

Udupi: It has been found that most of the ganja and other narcotics being supplied to Udupi district originates from Maharashtra, Raichur and several locations from Uttara Kannada, informed SP Nisha James speaking to the media at the police phone-in programme organized on Friday.
A few times, drugs have been sourced from Bengaluru as well. Earlier, drugs used to be sent in parcels through some buses. The police gave strict instructions to bus owners and conductors regarding this and hence, the number of parcels has dwindled. But, there are cases wherein narcotics are being transported through trains and through passengers travelling in buses. Therefore, special attention is being given in this concern. I am also giving widespread awareness regarding drug abuse. Cooperation from the public is also essential to curtail the abuse and sale of drugs.
Since July 12 to Aug 1st, 33 cases have been booked regarding the use and transport of drugs in Udupi district and 33 persons have been arrested, informed the SP.
