Kolar: Manjunath, whose nomination papers were dismissed by the Returning Officer of Mulbagal (SC) constituency following a Karnataka High Court decision in perspective of a caste certificate issue, on Friday withdrew his papers from Kolar seat where he entered the fray as an Independent candidate.
Meanwhile, MP K.H. Muniyappa’s daughter M. Nandini withdrew her papers from Mulbagal constituency. She documented papers as an Independent competitor.
The High Court ruled against Mr. Manjunath who was chosen as MLA from Mulbagal held seat as the caste certificate provided by him stated that he belonged to Beda Jangama, a Scheduled Caste community. The court proclaimed that he belonged to the Byragi caste, which is a Backward Caste (Category-1).
The court held that the acknowledgment of Mr. Manjunath’s nomination papers and in addition resulting statement that he was chosen from the constituency was illegal.
With the dismissal of papers of Mr. Manjunath, the Congress is dispossessed of a competitor in Mulbagal constituency. It was broadly hypothesized that Ms. Nandini be the unofficial nominee of the party and Mr. Manjunath may support her there. However that count was likewise turned out bad with Ms. Nandini withdrawing because of dissent of support by Mr. Manjunath.
