Heavy Rainfall Claims 3 Lives, Injures 9 in Karnataka Amid Huge Crop Damage

Bengaluru: Three people died while 9 persons reportedly injured as heavy rainfall activities continued for second day on Wednesday in Karnataka. State capital Bengaluru, Kolar, Chamarajnagar, Vijayapura, Mysuru and other parts of the state witnessed heavy showers on October 11 also. Huge property, crop damage reported in rain hit regions and exact data on the damage is not available. The concerned authorities are yet to make a survey on the damage to prepare estimates on the damage.
In a surprise incident, as many as 100 students who stranded in their school were rescued through boats and other equipments at Kolar taluk on Wednesday.
Two members of a family died while another survived with small injuries after a wall of a house collapsed at Bairawadagi village in Huvina Hipparagi hobli of Vijayapura on Wednesday morning. The deceased have been identified as Shankramma Ramachandra Chouradi (60), her daughter Mahadevi (30). Son of Shankramma is survived with minor injuries in the incident.
Bengaluru Banashankari resident Santhosha (26) lost his life in artificial floods while three others narrowly escaped from danger after an autorickshaw engulfed in flood water near Kaggalipura in Bengaluru south taluk on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, a youth was rescued by the locals from flood water in an incident reported near Hanur in Chamarjnagar district. As many as 7 members of a family injured after house damaged at Kempanapalya in Kollegal taluk.
Very heavy rainfall of 12 cm was recorded at MM Hills in Chamarajnagar district during 24 hours period which ended on 08.30 AM on Wednesday. Nelamangala of Bengaluru rural district witnessed heavy rainfall of 11 cm followed by 6 cm in Yagati, Chikkamagaluru district, said a report from India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Indi, Devarhippargi (Vijayapura district), Alland, Afzalpur (Kalaburgi district), Tarikere (Chikkamagaluru district), Chamarajanagar PTO, Yelandur (Chamarajanagar district) and Srinivaspura (Kolar district) recorded 5 cm rainfall each.
