Kuwait/Udupi: According to sources, Shankar Poojary from Basrur in Udupi district, who was jailed in Kuwait for carrying banned drug last May, has been released,
Mr Poojary was working for a Kuwaiti company and had visited his hometown last year for ten days. On his way back to Kuwait, he had agreed to carry a parcel handed over to him by a person from Udupi at the request of one of his colleagues. The request was to deliver the parcel to the mother-in-law of the sender, whom the colleague claimed to have been working there.
When Poojary reached Kuwait, the officials found the banned drugs in his possession and detained him. During interrogation, he told him that he had brought it for being delivered to a woman working in that country on the request of a colleague. But when the colleague in question, was confronted by the police, the colleague affirmed that he had nothing to do with the package. Hence, Mr Poojary faced incarceration till he was released.
Jyothi, wife of Shankar Poojary informed that she had received a call from a businessman named Pushpara in Kuait informing her of her husband’s release. She is grateful to individuals and associations who helped in securing the release.
Shanker’s visa is valid till Feb 4th but it not known when he may fly back to India. More details are awaited.
