Karnataka assembly polls: Regional parties to play kingmaker!?

Team Udayavani, Apr 20, 2023, 9:50 AM IST

With the elections just around the corner, the people of Karnataka can expect a high-octane political battle in the days to come.

The state assembly elections are expected to be fiercely contested, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition Congress party both looking to gain an edge in the polls.

The BJP, which currently holds power in Karnataka, is hoping to retain power in the state for another term. The party is banking on its development agenda, infrastructure projects, and pro-farmer policies to win the trust of the people of Karnataka. The party is also looking to consolidate its position among the Lingayat community, which has traditionally been a strong supporter of the BJP.

Meanwhile, the Congress party is looking to make a comeback in Karnataka after being out of power in the state for the past few years. The party is hoping to capitalize on the anti-incumbency factor against the BJP and is highlighting issues such as unemployment, agrarian distress, and rising fuel prices to connect with the people of Karnataka.

The upcoming assembly elections are also likely to witness a keen contest between regional parties such as the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike. These parties are expected to play a crucial role in the formation of the next government in Karnataka if the elections result in a hung assembly.
